Zero E-Michigan Hosts Our Solar Electric Trailer Journey
Gail and Devin Were Honored to Be Guests on the Show
This week, Gail and Devin were honored to be guests on the popular Zero E-Michigan podcast and Youtube show. The hour-long discussion gave us a chance to share ideas and thoughts we’d never shared before! Tune in!
We were effectively introduced to Karl by Bill Bortzfield, who had us on his YouTube show last summer. Bill and Karl are both big EV fans and drivers, connected especially by their ownership of electric motorcycles.
Karl is the Electric Vehicle Program Coordinator for Consumers Energy in Michigan. The company sponsors the podcast. Karl is passionate about EVs. Co-host Larry Hutson shares his passion.
In the podcast, we discussed a range of topics about our Chevy Bolt EV and towing our solar-powered Aliner Scout.
We shared the story of the blowout that nearly destroyed our trailer. The story hasn’t ended yet!
We also spoke at length about our experience towing our camper with our little EV, including our 1,000-mile trip! We covered how often we can charge the EV on the road without disconnecting the trailer.
We talked about how we charge the car in RV parks; Karl gave us some great insights about using lower power plugs for charging with our 50 Amp charger.
We also discussed the under-appreciated practice of charging with a standard 120-volt outlet.
Then, we had some fun talking about our Rivian purchase. We’re excited about that and the trailer we’ll tow with it. We talked about our crazy plan to convert the trailer to 100 percent electric power—no gas—and to equip it with solar panels adequate to power it.
We talked a bit about the Lucid Air and how it can go 500 miles on a single charge, making an EV driving day with 700 or more miles—as you can do in a VICE (vehicle with an internal combustion engine)—possible.
